Dallas City Council Member Angela Hunt spoke at this morning’s Oak Lawn Realtor meeting.  Angela is always a great source of information about  District 14 which includes Oak Lawn, Turtle Creek, Downtown Dallas and historic East Dallas.  Her news today was very positive:

  • After 3 years of a declining economic environment, Dallas seems to be leveling off.  Property values were expected to decrease by around 3% but only declined by 1.72% and sales tax revenue is ticking up.
  • Crime has decreased by 36% due to the city’s investment in hiring additional police officers.
  • The budget includes hiring an additional 200 police officers and 200 fire fighters.
  • 41 of 43 parks and recreation centers will remain open.

Angela is holding a town hall meeting to discuss the budget tomorrow evening from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. at Arlington Hall in Lee Park and invited anyone who wishes to attend.
